Plan Your 2024 Visit to Grey Towers National Historic Site 

 Tours:

The full 2024 tour season will begin on Friday May 24, 2024, running through October 31, 2024. Ticketed tours will be offered Thursdays through Mondays at 11am, noon, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm.

Tickets can be purchased in person on the day of the tour at our visitor center located in the historic Letterbox starting at 10:30am.

Grounds & Gardens Access:

Visitors are welcome to respectfully enjoy Grey Towers’ historic grounds and gardens free of charge based on the following schedule:

Gift Shop:

Our giftshop sponsored by the Grey Towers Heritage Association located in the visitor center will be open from 10:30am to 3:00pm on tour days. The giftshop will be open 11am through 1pm on non-tour days. 

 

Free Visitor Films:

Free visitor films run daily from 10:30am until 3pm. Weather permitting in our historic outbuilding called the Baitbox. 

 

2024 Reading Ranger Program

The Reading Ranger will take place on Monday mornings and will include: reading an inspiring conservation story, taking a hike or walk at the Grey Towers, writing or creating a piece of art to take home, and some Smokey or Woodsey supporting materials. This activity is suited for children ages 5-13. Parents or guardians must stay with the child or children during the program.

June:

6/10       Smokey’s Story (Posters exhibit tour, reading, coloring)

6/17      Kids making a difference in their communities (stories, brainstorming, litter collection, etc)

6/24      Noticing the world around you (story, plein air instruction and painting, being inspired by the world around you)

July:

7/1         Fire and fireworks Safety (How to have fun and be safe at the same time, Writing, demonstrations, log)

7/8         Fire Management and Fire Towers (history, hike to tower, careers in the Forest Service)

7/15      Conservation and Community (reading about Gifford, learning about conservation)

7/22      Trees at Grey Towers (instruction on Tree identification, Scavenger Hunt)

7/29      Invasive Species Management (hike, safety, nature discovery log on trail)

August:

8/5         Smokey Birthday preparation (reading, creating a birthday card, discussion)

8/12      Box Turtle at Long Pond (guest reader, turtle demonstration)

Reading Ranger 2023

                                      

Junior Ranger Program:

Children of all ages can participate in this free program. Children will be given a workbook with activities to be completed on the grounds. After the child finishes the activities in the workbook such as scavenger hunts and conservation-based questions, they will have the opportunity to be sworn in as a Junior Ranger at Grey Towers NHS. The Junior Ranger will then be given the official prestigious wooden Junior Ranger badge. The Junior Ranger program is designed to encourage children to appreciate nature and be more aware of the world around them.

Junior Ranger workbooks can be found at our Visitor Center starting at 10:30am and completed workbooks can be given to staff by 3:00pm on museum tour days. Children must be present to receive a badge.

Site Access, Parking and Handicap Access: 

Visitors are encouraged to use the pedestrian gates from sun up to sun down to access trails on the site. During our winter season there maybe limited vehicle gate access due to weather. Visitor restrooms and vehicle gates will be closed on Saturday and Sundays during the winter season. 

Pathways and parking may be effected by winter weather conditions.

The visitor lot has ample parking spaces for cars and buses. We kindly ask that buses use the designated bus parking areas. Bus parking will be limited during the winter season. Please call 570-296-9630 if arriving by bus to schedule parking during our winter season. 

The walkway from the parking lot to the mansion is approximately 350 yards uphill and mimics the original carriageway. Please enjoy the views, watch your step, and take your time as you walk towards the mansion.

For those with limited mobility, there are two handicap parking spots adjacent to the mansion for those with appropriate vehicle identification. If you do not have appropriate vehicle identification, you may drop members of your party off near the mansion and park in the lot behind the home. Signage will guide you up the driveway to the handicap spots and drop-off area.

Grey Towers is located in Milford, Pennsylvania (Pike County). In the northeastern corner of the state, Grey Towers sits in the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Please use “122 Old Owego Turnpike, Milford, PA 18337” when using GPS for directions.
