Christmas Tree Permits

Couple putting a Christmas tree on top of a car. Christmas tree permits are available seasonally through Recreation.gov. Permits are available online at Recreation.gov and in person from local vendors (see below) or one of the Willamette National Forest offices. In addition to regular business hours, the Middle Fork Ranger Station will also be open on Saturdays Nov. 25- Dec. 16 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cutting trees in some areas of the Willamette National Forest is prohibited; tree hunters should check maps prior to selecting their tree and remain outside of any of the closed areas.

Permits are $5.00 each. They allow the holder to cut one tree in designated areas; each household can purchase up to a maximum of five permits. Trees can be as tall as 15 feet.

Every Kid Outdoors: Free Christmas Tree Permits

A child and man walking through field of Christmas trees Fourth-grade students who have an Every Kid Outdoors pass can get a free Christmas Tree permit by either visiting one of the Willamette National Forest offices or through Recreation.gov by entering their voucher or pass number when prompted (there is a small processing fee when using recreation.gov).
