Forest Service Road 19, Aufderheide Drive Reopens!

Release Date:

Forest Service Road 19 (Aufderheide Drive) is open! Nearly 800 dump trucks worth of rocks and debris were cleared over four days, and this week contractors were able to ensure the integrity of the road bed, allowing the road to reopen for the first time since slide occurred in late December, 2017.

There is still heavy machinery on Road 19 between Box Canyon and Highway 126, so we advise motorists, especially cyclists and motorcyclists, to travel cautiously. Travelers are also advised that there may be up to 60 minute delays on this stretch Monday-Friday through the fall. With the rock slide removed, travelers will once again be able to reach Terwilliger Hot Springs and other recreation sites from Highway 126 and Highway 58. There will be no delays on Saturdays or Sundays.

We appreciate the fast and safe work of Triptych Construction LCC who helped remove overhead hazards above the slide site, and MJ Construction and Aggregate Resource Industries, Inc. who cleared the slide.
