PORTLAND, Ore., June 24, 2024 – U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service Pacific Northwest Regional Forester Jacque Buchanan has appointed Molly Juillerat to serve as Forest Supervisor of the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest effective July 1, 2024.

As Forest Supervisor, Juillerat will oversee all land management and administration for the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, which spans nearly 1.8 million acres in seven counties across southwest Oregon and northern California.

Juillerat will be returning to the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest as Forest Supervisor following a temporary assignment on the forest as acting Forest Supervisor in late 2023 through early 2024.

"Molly is an inclusive leader who excels at working with partners, communities and with Tribes and state and federal agencies. I look forward to seeing her continue building on the successes the Rogue River-Siskiyou leaders and staff have made to help improve the overall health and wellbeing of forests, wildlife, communities, and economies of southwest Oregon,” Buchanan said.

The forest contains 260 miles of federally designated Wild and Scenic rivers and more than 340,000 acres of Congressionally designated Wilderness area, while providing habitat for a diverse range of vegetation and wildlife, and supporting an array of human activities, from recreation to forest products.

“Southern Oregon is a place that’s been home to me in different ways at various times in my life and career. My dad reminded me this weekend that I have been backpacking (on southern Oregon forests) since I was 6 and climbing Mt. McLoughlin (on the Rogue River Siskiyou National Forest) since I was 10,” Juillerat said.

Juillerat’s permanent appointment to the position begins in July. She succeeds Merv George Jr., who has been serving as a Deputy Regional Forester for the Pacific Northwest Region since July 2023 and was permanently appointed in September 2023.

“This is a challenging time for forests, and I’m excited to be returning to southern Oregon with the Forest Service to help address those challenges and support the staff who care for these special places,” Juillerat said. “Together, our priority will not change – improving the health and resiliency of the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, with all that entails, while serving a diverse community that depends on everything it provides.”

Juillerat has served in the U.S. Department of Agriculture for more than 15 years, and in natural resources management for more than 23 years. She has a bachelor’s degree from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, OR and additional graduate coursework at Oregon State University and Southern Oregon University.

Currently, she is the District Ranger for Middle Fork Ranger District on the Willamette National Forest in central Oregon. She has worked for the Forest Service since 2007; first as a district botanist, then as a deputy district ranger before being appointed district ranger in 2020.

Prior to working for the Forest service, she worked for the U.S. Geological Survey, National Park Service, and for the Bureau of Land Management’s Lakeview District’s Klamath Falls Resource Area.

The mission of the USDA Forest Service is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the nation’s forests and grasslands to meet the needs of present and future generations. The agency manages the 193 million acres of National Forest System land, provides stewardship assistance to non-federal forest landowners, and maintains the largest forestry research organization in the world.
