Umpqua Forest Supervisor Alice Carlton announced David Warnack as the new Deputy Forest Supervisor for the Umpqua National Forest. Warnack begins his new job in Roseburg on November 16.
“It is my pleasure to announce that David Warnack will be serving as the Deputy Forest Supervisor here on the Umpqua National Forest,” said Carlton. “We are excited to gain his experience in working with partners and managing fire, grazing, minerals, and recreation programs on our leadership team for the Forest.”
Warnack has served as District Ranger for the Smokey Bear Ranger District on the Lincoln National Forest in New Mexico since 2010. His recent work experience includes two temporary leadership assignments on the Gila and Coconino National Forests.
Prior to serving as a district ranger, Warnack worked on the Gila National Forest in the recreation and wilderness programs as well as the collaborative forest restoration program. He started his career in 1998 at Beaverhead Work Center, a remote location in the Black Range Mountains of the Gila National Forest, where he received a solid foundational education in the work of the U.S. Forest Service.
Warnack graduated from the University of New Mexico with a liberal arts degree. He spent the next 10 years building a long segment of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail in southern New Mexico as a wilderness technician.
“I am honored to have been selected to serve on the Umpqua National Forest. The Umpqua is a beautiful and challenging place to work,” said Warnack. “I strongly believe in the power of relationships, and I look forward to meeting the people and partners of the Pacific Northwest Region.”
Warnack replaces Gina Owens, who accepted the position of Forest Supervisor for the Gifford Pinchot National Forest in Washington.
