Funding Available for Forest Projects

The Secure Rural Schools Act (SRS Act) was reauthorized by the President on April 16, 2015. Proposals for natural resource projects funded by Title II provisions of the SRS Act located on, or benefiting, the Rogue River-Siskiyou or Umpqua national forests are now being accepted. Proposals are due by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4. Submit proposals using the project form at http://tinyurl.com/a4ptyrv to lchernandez@fs.fed.us for the Umpqua National Forest or to chamisekramer@fs.fed.us for the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest.
There is a total of $948,365 dollars is available for funding projects in Douglas, Jackson, Klamath and Lane counties. Non-profit organizations, state and county governments, and academic and private enterprises are encouraged to propose projects. The types of proposals eligible for funding include:
- restoring or maintaining watershedsmaintaining or decommissioning roads and trails
- improving soil productivity
- restoring fish or wildlife habitat
- reestablishing native species
- removing noxious weeds
- reducing hazardous fuels
Individuals and groups interested in submitting projects to the U.S. Forest Service are encouraged to discuss their project proposals with the appropriate contact for the Ranger District where the project would take place:

A local citizens’ advisory committee, known as the Rogue-Umpqua Resource Advisory Committee (RAC), will review the projects and make recommendations for funding. The committee will meet October 14 and 15, 2015 to review and recommend projects for funding.
