June 22, 2015 - The Umpqua National Forest is excited to be hosting three free events for children at the Roseburg office this summer. Classes are open to children of all ages. All classes are from 10:30 a.m. - noon.
Wednesday, July 1st: Pollinators
- We will be learning about pollinators, everything from butterflies to flies and why they are important for not only plants and animals but people too. We will also learn about keeping bees from a real bee keeper!
Wednesday, July 8th: Flint knapping
- Join Forest Archaeologist Chris Kelly to learn about flint knapping. The Heritage Program will be holding a flint knapping demonstration to illustrate methods in which stone tools were made! The demonstration will include the use of original techniques, percussion flaking tools (basalt cobble), tool stone (jaspers and obsidian), antler billets, as well as modern copper tools.
Wednesday, July 15th: Become an Official Junior Ranger
- We will learn about everything from waterfalls to wildlife! Discover the Umpqua National Forest and what it means to be a Junior Ranger. You can earn a patch!
