Nation-wide Wilderness Regulations:

• Motorized equipment and equipment used for mechanical transport is prohibited. This includes the use of motor vehicles, motorboats, motorized equipment, bicycles, hang gliders, wagons, carts, portage wheels, and the landing of aircraft including helicopters.

Umatilla National Forest Wilderness Regulations

Pursuant to 36 CFR, sections 261.50 (a) and (b), the following acts are prohibited within these wilderness areas: North Fork John Day, North Fork Umatilla, Wenaha-Tucannon .

1. Riding, hitching, tethering or hobbling a horse or other saddle or pack animal in violation of posted instructions 36CFR 261.58(aa)
2. Possessing and/or transporting unprocessed vegetative matter, such as hay, straw, grass or grain. Unprocessed vegetative matter is defined as any material that may serve as seed source for noxious weeds, non-native, or other undesirable plants. Weed-free feed is required in all Pacific Northwest National Forests.  To find weed-free vendors in your area please visit the websites below.

3. Entering or being in the wilderness with groups consisting of more than 12 persons and/or 8 head of livestock.  36CFR 261.58(t)
4. Caching or leaving any equipment, personal property or supplies unattended for a period in excess of 72 hours. 36 CFR 261.57(f)
5. Possessing or using any form of wheeled vehicle for the purpose of transportation of such things as people, equipment, personal property, supplies, and game. 36CFR 26I.51(h)
6. Possessing or using a motor vehicle, motorboat, motorized equipment, hang glider or bicycle. 
7. Shortcutting a switchback on any trail, 36 CFR 261. 55(e)

*Violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 or imprisonment for not more than 6 months or both.
