Winter Discovery Series Explores Coast’s Future, Past

Coastal visitors will get a glimpse into the region’s future and past during the next two Winter Discovery Series installations at the Cape Perpetua Visitor Center, 2400 S. Hwy. 101. Both presentations begin at 2 p.m.

• Jan. 16: Paul Engelmeyer, manager of the Portland Audubon Society’s Ten Mile Creek coastal conservation sanctuary, will discuss land-sea conservation issues and strategies as they relate to the Cape Perpetua Marine Reserve, marbled murrelets and smaller fish species that serve as prey for larger fish and sea birds.
• Feb. 13: Author and historian Steve McQuiddy will discuss the Central Coast’s World War II conscientious objectors camp, Camp Angell, and how it may have laid the groundwork for the radical peace movement of the 1960s.

The Cape Perpetua Winter Discovery Series is an opportunity to explore topics and resources relevant to the Oregon Coast during the off-season months between November and March. All presentations and guided walks are free, but a Northwest Forest Pass, Oregon Coast Passport or $5 day-use fee is required within the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area.
