SEEDLING SURVEYS IN JUNE AND JULY

Release Date:

Contact(s): Amy Baumer

Starting in June, in partnership with Idaho Department of Lands through the Good Neighbor Authority, drone surveys will be conducted in the 2011 Salt and the 2012 Mustang Complex fires.

The purpose of the surveys is to count seedlings in areas affected by wildfires to determine which areas have naturally regenerated with seedlings.  Results of the surveys will be used to help the Salmon-Challis National Forest focus reforestation work on areas within the fire footprint which are not naturally regenerating a little more than a decade after the wildfires.

There will be two teams working on the project and will be camping the project sites.  Field work is tentatively scheduled to conclude in late July.
