- Abstract:
- The research natural areas (RNA's) on our National Forests are protected for the purposes of maintaining biological diversity, conducting non-manipulative research and monitoring, and fostering education. RNA's help preserve our Nation's natural heritage for future generations. The protection afforded RNA's is a critical step in maintaining a range of biological diversity of native ecosystems and species. Because they are protected in a natural state, RNA's also provide valuable opportunities for monitoring of long-term ecological change, and comparison of the effects of resource management activities against unmanaged controls. For these reasons they are fast becoming an integral part of forest land and resource management plans.

Cleveland NF: Updated attribute data. Agua Tibia year established changed from 1990 to 1991. Upper San Diego River, Viejas Mtn, and Guatay Mtn. Status changed from Proposed to Candidate.

Adjusted the shape of two candidate and proposed RNAs based on information and maps from PSW research web site: <http://www.fs.usda.gov/psw/programs/rna/description.shtml>. Written in the Source field was 'GenTechReport' indicating the map boundary was from the map of record in PSW Research Station General Technical Report for that RNA.
