SPF Redesign-Old page
State and Private Forestry Redesign is an approach conceived in 2007 that is improving the ability to identify the greatest threats to forest sustainability and accomplish meaningful change in high priority areas. The three national State and Private Forestry themes “Conserve, Protect, and Enhance” are now set in law as national priorities. Also required are the State Assessments and Strategies that identify priority areas in each state for program delivery.
The US Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters sponsor an annual grant proposal solicitation for states for a portion of the State and Private Forestry allocation. This approach helps to address current forestry opportunities and challenges, while demonstrating the value of a public investment in state and private landscapes. The 2011 selected proposals in Regions 1 and 4 are displayed on the next page.
