Wilderness areas

One of our nation's greatest treasures is the National Wilderness Preservation System established by the Wilderness Act of 1964. Wilderness is land designated by Congress to be protected and preserved in their natural condition, without permanent improvements or habitation. 

Please review regulations and permit information associated with Wilderness areas and always use Leave No Trace techniques to help keep these areas wild, clean, and pristine.

• Wilderness Permits- Information about permit requirements for the eight Wilderness areas within Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest.
• Wilderness Regulations - Wilderness Regulations apply to all designated Wilderness areas. In addition there are special regulations associated with individual Wilderness areas. 
• Weed-free feed requirements - As part of a larger effort to reduce invasive species on national forest lands, weed-free feed is required in the 17 national forests and the Crooked River National Grasslands of the Pacific Northwest Region of Oregon and Washington.
