Brush Creek/Hayden Ranger District (Saratoga, Wyo.)

Douglas Ranger District (Douglas, Wyo.)

Laramie Peak Unit

as of 6/18/2024

  • Black Mountain Lookout will be staffed by July 1.
  • Campground reservations can be made at recreation.gov
  • Esterbrook, Friend Park and Curtis Gulch Campgrounds are open and have potable water.
  • Campbell Creek Campground is open - water being tested at this location.
  • LaPrele Guard Station is open for the season. Water is being tested, so please bring drinking water, and there is limited electricity now available.   
  • Do not attempt to drive on Black Mountain Lookout Road. 

Thunder Basin National Grassland

  • Fire restrictions are in place in Weston County. 
  • Conditions in many places are rough. The main road is in good shape, but many side roads have deep ruts and are not passable.  
  • In the mining areas, County Roads 4 and 30 have been relocated and are not accurately depicted on current maps. Do not rely on the map to determine your location. Use a GPS and/or web based mapping solutions to determine your current location.

Hahns Peak/Bears Ears Ranger District (Steamboat Springs, Colo.)

CAMPING:

  • Hinman campground - open.

  • Hahn's Peak Lake Campground and day use area - open.

  • Seedhouse Campground - open.

  • Freeman Reservoir Campground - open

  • Dumont Campground - open

  • Meadows Campground - open 

  • Dry Lake Campground will be closed until 2025 as it undergoes construction for the 2024 season.

CLOSURES:

  • The Bridge at Fish Creek Falls: Due to repairs, the bridge at the waterfall is closed and will re-open July 1st.
     
  • Buffalo Pass - Open to the 2nd gate only due to snow that remains on road.
     

HIKING and MOTARIZED TRAILS:

  • Generally not accessible until July and not fully melted out until mid-July

Laramie Ranger District (Laramie, Wyo.)

as of 6/27/2024

  • WY HWY 130 - open.
     
  • All roads on Pole Mountain - open. 
     
  • Vedauwoo CG and Rec Area - open. 
     
  • Nash Fork Campground - open
     
  • Mirror Lake Campground - open
     
  • Tie City CG and Yellow Pine CG - open.
     
  • The Little Laramie River Trail is partially closed until further notice. The bridge is not passable.
     
  • Specific to the heavily used Tie City parking lot and winter trailhead, when the parking lot is full recreationists should seek access and parking at alternate locations, such as Happy Jack or the I-80 rest area. Parking along Highway 210 is not allowed.

Parks Ranger District (Walden, Colo.)

  • For staffing reasons, the Parks Ranger District visitor center is temporarily closed to the public until further notice. For assistance and questions, please contact the Yampa Ranger District office by calling 970-638-4516 or emailing amber.cramer@usda.gov -or- barbara.gehl@usda.gov for inquiries and questions.
     
  • Buffalo Pass is still not passable all the way through from the Walden side or from the Steamboat side.
     
  • All campgrounds are now open
    *PLEASE NOTE: Water will not be available at the campgrounds due to pending water test results that could take several weeks.*

FISHING ACCESS UPDATES:
The water around Teal, Pines, Big Creeks and Aspen are free flowing and ready for fishing.  

GRIZZLY GUARD STATION RENTALNow open. Reservations must be made on www.recreation.gov. Please note it fills fast, however, the website provides an option to get alerts of new openings. 

ADDITIONAL NOTICES:

  • Portions of the Snyder Creek Loop Trail and Radial Mountain Trail will be closed due to logging operations within the vicinity until further notice. Please refer to the Forest Order and map for the exact location of the closures. “Closed Trail” signs will be placed at intersecting roads and trail heads.​
     
  • Forest Road 792.1 is temporarily closed for repairs on bridge. Please refer to the Forest Order and map for the exact location of the closure. 
     
  • WOLF SITINGS: We are asking the public to please report any gray wolf sightings in Jackson County to Colorado Parks and Wildlife's website, where there is an online form to report sightings. https://cpw.state.co.us/

Yampa Ranger District (Yampa, Colo.)

CAMPING OPPORTUNITIES NOW ACCESSIBLE:

  • All campgrounds are now open.
    Note: The only campgrounds with potable water available is Lynx Pass Campground, Bear Lake Campground and Blacktail Creek Campground.

OTHER CONDITION REPORTS:

  • Flat Tops Trail Scenic Byway (From Yampa to Meeker, CO) - Open all the way to Meeker
     
  • Hiking Trails: The only hikeable trail currently is the Ute Hart Lake Trail located below Yamcolo Reservoir. All other trails still have drifts and a fair amount of snow causing hikers to lose the trail and turn around. The most optimal time for hiking in the Flat Tops is mid-July through September.
