Kootenai National Forest - Lincoln County Resource Advisory Committee

Resource Advisory Committees (RAC)

What is a Resource Advisory Committee?

A Secure Rural Schools Resource Act Advisory Committee (RAC) provides recommendations to the Forest Service on the development and implementation of special projects on federal lands reauthorized under the Secure Rural Schools Act and Community Self-Determination Act in Public Law 115-141. Each RAC consists of 15 people representing varied interests and areas of expertise, who work collaboratively to improve working relationships among community members and national forest personnel.

Additional information about the RAC and Secure Rural Schools can be found at http://www.fs.usda.gov/pts/

What types of Projects does the RAC fund?

SRS funds may be used for projects that improve the maintenance of existing infrastructure, implement stewardship objectives that enhance forest ecosystems, restore and improve land health, fish and wildlife habitat, and water quality. RACs also help review and make recommendations on proposed conservation project or recreation fee proposals submitted by the local National Forests.

Lincoln County RAC

The geographic boundaries of the RACs in the northwest Montana are proposed to be aligned with county boundaries. The boundary of this RAC covers Lincoln County. The Lincoln County RAC members are sought to work collaboratively with other interests for the long-term benefit of the Kootenai National Forest and National Forest system lands.

The Lincoln RAC is currently seeking proposals for projects that would enhance forest ecosystems or restore and improve land health and water quality on the Kootenai National Forest. Over $468,000 has been allocated to RAC projects this year. These funds are made available to Lincoln County through the Secure Rural Schools and Self-determination Act.

To learn more about the RAC, please contact RAC coordinator Larona Rebo at 406-283-7764 or larona.rebo@usda.gov or your local Kootenai National Forest office.
