Two St. Joe River Campgrounds Opening for Reservations

Release Date:

Two campgrounds on the St. Joe Ranger District of the Idaho Panhandle National Forests—the Shadowy St. Joe Campground and the Line Creek Stock Camp— will soon have sites available for reservations.

The campgrounds won’t open until Memorial Day weekend, but starting April 1 visitors can make reservations online through www.recreation.gov.

The Shadowy St. Joe Campground, a popular site located about 10 miles east of St. Maries on a slack water section of the St. Joe River, was closed last year for a complete renovation. The campground received all new electrical hookups, paved roadways and camping spurs, accessible picnic tables, fire rings and vault toilets. The group shelter now has lights, barbeque grills, accessible tables, and seating for 40 people.

All renovations were made possible with funding from the Great American Outdoors Act and the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation.

The Line Creek Stock Camp is located 87 miles from St. Maries near Red Ives on the Wild and Scenic St. Joe River. The stock camp includes pull-through camping units with fire pits and vault toilets. Facilities for stock animals include six sites with feed bunks, two sites with highline poles and one site with a corral. Stock water is available at the river. Five of the designated stock sites will be available for reservations.

The Forest Service plans to add more corrals and picnic tables this summer and next summer.
