Prepare for winter conditions. Bring appropriate clothing, equip your vehicle with survival essentials and check weather forecast before your trip. Many roads on Mt. Whitney Ranger District are not cleared of snow or rock fall in winter.

Wilderness Permits are required year round for all overnight wilderness travel, even in winter. Permits for trips beginning during quota season, May 1st through November 1st can be reserved on www.recreation.gov
