FR 90 Bridge Resurfacing, FR 54 Reconstruction Bring Temporary Road Closures

Release Date:

Forest Road 90 entering the southwest corner of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest will close for repairs for one day either Aug. 23 or 24 at the bridge crossing the Swift Power Canal. Forest Road 54 is also scheduled for closure to allow for repair work lasting 32 days.

The FR 90 bridge closure is slated to allow the removal of the bridge’s asphalt surface in preparation for resurfacing. Another one-day closure to pave the bridge will occur in late August or September. The bridge will be open to traffic during the intervening time. However, there will be no detour during the closure days, so access to the lower end of FR 90 will be by FR 51 (Curley Creek Rd.) from the south and FR 25 from the north.

This project is planned to maintain traveler safety, reduce impact to fisheries and water-quality in the Power Canal and to contribute to effective transportation in and out of the Forest on this heavily used thoroughfare.

Forest Road 54 will be closed beginning Aug. 24 for up to 32 days. Contractors will complete permanent reconstruction of two sections affected by landslides in 2008 and temporarily fixed in 2009.

This reconstruction will occur between mileposts 31 and 32.2. Travel between Carson and Amboy will be closed along this route during this time.
