Regional Closure Orders

  • R1-2023-01 - Regional Camping Restriction Order that prohibits: 
    • National Forests in Montana: 1. camping or otherwise occupying a single site for over 16 consecutive days within a calendar year; or 2. camping or occupying any number of sites for 32 cumulative days in a calendar year.
    • National Forest, Experimental Forest and Grasslands in North and South Dakota: 1. camping or otherwise occupying a single site for over 14 consecutive days within a calendar year; or 2. camping or occupying any number of sites for 28 cumulative days in a calendar year.
  • Noxious Weed Seed Free Forage Required on Public Land - Prohibited by Region 1 Forest Service Special Order R1-2022-02: Possessing, storing, and transporting straw, hay, grain, seed, or other forage or mulch product without documentation that it is certified as weed free by a State certification process that meets or exceeds the North American Weed Free Forage standards or comparable standard; and tags, twine, or other weed free certification marking on all individual bales, containers,sacks, etc., as required by the product’s State of origin. 36 C.F.R § 261.58(t).

  • R1-2022-01 - December 21, 2021. Northern Region Occupancy and Use Restrictions. This order prohibits a variety of acts from using vehicles recklessly or illegally on National Forest System lands, plowing or hauling on Forest roads without a permit, being in violation of state or local alcohol laws, using federally prohibited drugs or controlled substances, using fireworks or pyrotechnic devices, using explosives and exploding targets, and using combustion engines without a spark arrestor.

Food Storage Special Order

  • R1-2023-02 - Northern Continental Divide Ecosystem Food/Wildlife Attractant Storage Order for the Flathead, Lolo, Kootenai, Helena-Lewis and Clark, and Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forests within the Northern Continental Divide Ecosystem.

Coram Experimental Forest - Hungry Horse-Glacier View Ranger District

  • D06-143-L-19 - December 19, 2019. Prohibits building a campfire, collecting surface rock or minerals, camping, and collecting Christmas trees within the boundaries of the Coram Experimental Forest.
  • D06-124-L-13 - September 23, 2013. Prohibits discharging a firearm, air rifle, or gas gun within the boundaries of the Coram Experimental Forest.
