Bozeman, MT – The Custer Gallatin National Forest welcomes Corey Lewellen as District Ranger on the Bozeman Ranger District.  Corey spent four months earlier this year in a temporary assignment as District Ranger in Bozeman and will be returning to the position permanently on December 11, 2017.  Corey replaces Lisa Stoeffler who is now the Deputy Forest Supervisor on the White River National Forest in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.

Corey has been the District Ranger for the Townsend Ranger District on the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest since 2014. He started his Forest Service career on the Willamette National Forest in Oregon as a fish technician, a fisheries biologist, Assistant Aquatics Program Manager, and Endangered Species Act consultation biologist.  He also worked on the White River National Forest in Colorado as a District Fisheries Biologist and detailed as a Deputy District Ranger for the Aspen-Sopris Ranger District.

“I am incredibly excited, and consider it a honor and privilege to serve as the District Ranger for the Bozeman Ranger District. Having the opportunity to be the acting District Ranger earlier this spring, allowed me to experience what a great Ranger District and community Bozeman is, and I feel fortunate to come back as the permanent District Ranger,” said Lewellen.  “I know that the Bozeman Ranger District, and the greater Custer Gallatin National Forest, includes a very diverse spectrum of both natural resource management and recreational opportunities - and I will enjoy working on the many projects that are occurring across the district and forest.  I am a public servant and I look forward to meeting our agency’s mission and serving our community to the best of my ability.”

“Corey will be a great addition to the Custer Gallatin team,” said Mary Erickson, Forest Supervisor.  “His enthusiasm, commitment, and passion around working with partners and collaborating with communities to build and support relationships will be a true asset to the Forest.  Please join us in welcoming Corey, his wife Emily, and sons Corban age 10, Finley age 7, and Riley and Miles age 4 to the Custer Gallatin Forest.”
