Overview
The Mystic Ranger District is in the central portion of the Black Hills National Forest and has an office in Rapid City, SD and a shop located in Hill City, SD.
The office employs around 55 permanent and 20 seasonal employees.
The office building is also shared with the Rocky Mountain Research Station.
The District covers approximately 356,000 acres of which 311,000 acres are National Forest System lands, and is adjacent to Rapid City, the regional trade center and second largest city in South Dakota.
Vegetation management (timber harvest/fuels reduction) and related silvicultural activities are the largest resource programs on the district. The district also has active programs in lands and minerals, wildlife habitat improvement, fire, recreation, cultural resources, and livestock grazing. (Photo by Halley Legge)
