Learn How to Fish in Allegheny National Forest

Marienville, PA, June 10, 2024 —The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service is offering a free, family-friendly program about the basics of fishing in Allegheny National Forest. The program will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Beaver Meadows near Marienville. The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission has issued an educational exemption for this program, therefore no fishing license is required to participate.

“All ages are welcome to join this introductory program which will go over basic fishing techniques, tackle and bait options, fish species you’re likely to catch, and then spend most of the time fishing,” said Ranger Sarah Needs.

Limited fishing equipment is available for use by program participants, including fishing rods, hooks, and bait. To sign up, contact Sarah Needs by June 21 at 814-927-5776 or sarah.needs@usda.gov.

We recommend participants wear weather-appropriate clothing, sun protection, and bring a chair, if desired. Participants should meet at 8:50 a.m. in the Beaver Meadows parking area.

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission designated July 4, Independence Day, a fish-for-free day. Normally, any angler aged 16 and over needs a valid fishing license to fish on public waterways, but the license regulation has been waived for July 4. All other fishing regulations still apply.
