  • Penn Soil RC&D's ANF Centennial Geocache Trail - June 2023 to September 2024

Explore ANF while locating 28 ANF Centennial Geocaches placed throughout the Forest! Find 20 geocaches (at least five in each of the four counties of Elk, Forest, McKean and Warren) and document the unique code word on each cache in your Allegheny National Forest Centennial GeoTrail Passport Document. Present your completed Geocache passport at one of the three ANF offices to receive a trackable ANF Centennial Souvenir or a commemorative coaster, while supplies last. Share photos of your ANF Centennial Geocache adventures on Facebook and tag us at @AlleghenyNF for a chance to be featured!

All geocaches are published on geocaching.com. Participants will need to register online, for free, to retrieve the coordinates/locations. For more information, visit pennsoil.org.

  • Community Tree Planting

Join us to commemorate National Public Lands Day and the Allegheny National Forest Centennial at a tree planting event on Saturday, September 30 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Irwin Run Canoe Launch.

All are welcome to help beautify this newly updated recreation area with native plants, including Sycamore, Redbud, Mountain Laurel, and Buttonbush. We recommend that participants wear gloves and weather appropriate clothing.

  • Walk in Penn's Woods

Join our free guided hike on Sunday, October 1, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Laurel Mill Cross-Country Ski and Hiking Trail. Guides will discuss efforts to deal with the glossy buckthorn infestation on the trail, and identify other invasive plants. The walk will be about one mile in length on fairly level terrain. Please come prepared for the weather, bring water, and protect yourself from ticks and biting insects.

No registration is required. Pets are not permitted on this hike. This walk is co-sponsored by the Allegheny National Forest and the North Central Forest Landowners Association.
