Subject: Bankhead National Forest Liaison Panel – December Working Meeting and Field Trip
The next working meeting of the Bankhead National Forest Liaison Panel will be held Thursday evening, December 7, 2000 starting at 7:00 pm. The meeting location will be the Traders and Farmers Bank Upstairs Meeting Room in Double Springs, Alabama. The meeting is open to the public.
The objectives for this meeting are the following:
· Look at options for solving problems with illegal ATV and horseback riding.
· Discuss the problem of garbage dumping on the Bankhead.
· Review proposal for cutting of standing snags along Forest Service roads.
A meeting agenda is enclosed.
In addition, the Bankhead National Forest will host a field trip on Saturday, December 9, 2000 starting at 9:00 am. The trip will begin at the Black Warrior Work Center located on highway 33 in Lawrence County. The purpose of the trip is to:
· See examples of upland hardwood and mixed pine-hardwood forest communities, as part of the Bankhead desired future condition.
· Discuss some upland hardwood restoration options.
· See current forest health problems related to southern pine beetle.
All members of the public are invited to attend the field trip. Transportation and drinks will be provided for the field trip. People attending will need to bring a sack lunch. Please notify the Bankhead District Office by December 1 if you plan to participate so we can make our plans.
