Scenic Driving

Scenic Driving on the Kancamagus, photo taken by Terry Miller

The White Mountain National Forest and White Mountains region is a fantastic place for scenic driving and one of the most popular activities for visitors.  Scenic vistas, interpretive signs, leisurely strolls, and quaint towns offer a little something for everyone.

Kancamagus Scenic Byway

The Kancamagus Scenic Byway offers one of the most beautiful routes through New Hampshire's White Mountains, especially during the fall foliage season. A trip across the "Kanc" is a highlight for most visitors to the White Mountain National Forest.  The 34 mile long scenic byway connects with the White Mountain Trail to make a loop.

Brand new in spring 2012, the Weeks Act Legacy Driving Tour was created to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Weeks Acts in 2011.  The Weeks Act envisioned the creation of the National Forests east of the Mississippi River.  This actual or virtual history tour includes 40 sites along a 100-mile loop in the White Mountains region. Free print brochures with maps can be found at Forest Service Visitors Centers and other tourist locations in the White Mountains Region.
