Description:
Abstract:
CA_sec368centerline_atts: This layer represents lines which have been proposed (per the requirements of Section 368 of the Energy Policy Act of 2005) as West-wide energy corridor centerlines for the final "Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement, Designation of Energy Corridors on Federal Land in the 11 Western States", November 2008. The layer was intersected with surface management agency, BLM field office, and state layers to add more tabular attributes.
CA_sec368centerline: This layer represents lines which have been proposed (per the requirements of Section 368 of the Energy Policy Act of 2005) as West-wide energy corridor centerlines for the final "Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement, Designation of Energy Corridors on Federal Land in the 11 Western States", November 2008.
CA_sec368centerline_row_int: This is a copy of the sec368centerline feature class which has been developed to show attributes relating to intersecting Rights-of-Way with respect to the energy corridors. Rights-of-Way (ROW) were derived from the following linear features by buffering the features with the default width of the Section 368 energy corridors centerline (3500 feet);
1) existing electrical transmission 2) existing oil or gas pipeline 3) existing existing roads 4) existing railroads
Additional intersections were made for Colorado Utility Commission ROWs and the Southwest Interconnect Plan (SWIP) corridor in Nevada.
Because of the subjective nature of the term "intersect" when used with these linear features, and based on the accuracy of the data involved, numerous manual edits were performed (see Process Steps for details).
CA_sec368zone: This layer represents areas which have been proposed (per the requirements of Section 368 of the Energy Policy Act of 2005) as West-wide energy corridors for the final "Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement, Designation of Energy Corridors on Federal Land in the 11 Western States", November 2008.
CA_sec368zone_atts: This layer represents areas which have been proposed (per the requirements of Section 368 of the Energy Policy Act of 2005) as West-wide energy corridors for the final "Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement, Designation of Energy Corridors on Federal Land in the 11 Western States", November 2008. The layer was intersected with surface management agency, BLM field office, and state layers to add more tabular attributes.
CA_sec368zone_070715_080905_changes: This layer represents areas which have been proposed (per the requirements of Section 368 of the Energy Policy Act of 2005) as West-wide energy corridors for either the draft or final "Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement, Designation of Energy Corridors on Federal Land in the 11 Western States", November 2008.
Purpose:
This layer was created to depict the proposed locations of Section 368 energy corridor centerlines on federal lands in the Western 11 states, and additional attributes were added to allow for analysis and map products.

Data_Quality_Information:
Attribute_Accuracy:
Attribute_Accuracy_Report:
Line attributes consist of automatically generated record ids and lengths, and a name assigned according to the nodes at each endpoint. The names have been checked for consistency with the corridor zones.
Logical_Consistency_Report:
Lines have been determined to be topologically correct with endpoints snapped to adjacent lines at intersections where appropriate.
Completeness_Report:
Includes all corridors analyzed in the final Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement.
Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report:
This layer represents a compilation of data from many sources, each with their own scale and quality limitations. It has been analyzed against other GIS layers also having their scale and quality limitations. Significant work has been done to map locations so that protected lands are avoided wherever possible, and to encode the GIS and tabular information provided by the many sources as accurately as possible.
The target maximum scale for the layer during development was 1:24,000. However, protected land boundaries and many other layers necessary to bound the corridor locations are simply not available at 1:24,000 scale or better for the 11-state region. Even the best available surface mangement agency layer used to determine which lands are federal has some content developed from sources with scales less than 1:24,000.

Source_Information:
Source_Contribution:
This layer is a compilation of many sources from many offices in several federal agencies. Inquiries should be directed to the federal land management agency or agencies with jurisdiction over the lands in the area of interest.
Process_Step:
Process_Description:
This layer was compiled from many sources, and is based on a set of centerline connections between energy supply and demand areas. Lines in the layer were made by: 1) Integrating lines received from a project participant, 2) Integrating lines from other GIS layers with features desired to be corridor centerlines (such as a road or existing transmission line), 3) Using GIS processing to generate lines a desited distance from particular features, 4) Combining or editing the above to avoid protected lands and to correct topology issues, and/or 5) Truncating or removing portions of lines found to occur on non-federal land.

Process_Step:
Process_Description:
To add attributes needed for analysis, the sec368centerline layer was intersected with sec368zone_atts. In the output layer the corridor centerlines were then split at each location the agency, field office, or state changed.
