- Description:
-
- Abstract:
-
The major intent is to describe the geomorphic units related to landtypes, Vegetative Response Units or VRUs.
- Purpose:
-
This coverage was created to allow the results of the forest's Land System Inventory to be used in a spatial analysis system. It connects to an ORACLE database application, LT_LIMITS, which stores landuse interpretations made in the Land System Inventory. The geomorphic units described in the various landtype association layers, LTAs, VRUs, and ALTAs can be used to broadly describe the environment in relation to sediment, vegetation, and aquatic conditions.

The Forest Service uses the most current and complete data available. GIS data and product accuracy may vary. They may be: developed from sources of differing accuracy, accurate only at certain scales, based on modeling or interpretation, incomplete while being created or revised, etc. Using GIS products for purposes other than those for which they were created, may yield inaccurate or misleading results. It is highly recommended that before any conclusions or analysis is processed using this data that the data be discussed with a resource specialist in the particular field. The Forest Service reserves the right to correct, update, modify, or replace, GIS products without notification. For more information, contact the Nez Perce National Forest Supervisor's Office, Grangeville, Idaho, 1-208-983-1950.

Region 1's 1:100,000 Landform Parent Material landtype associations.
- Source_Contribution:
-
The LTAs, VRUs, and ALTA's for the forest's portion of the Selway Bitterroot wilderness were created using the R1 LTA layer.
- Process_Step:
-
- Process_Description:
-
The landtypes mapped in the forest's Land System Inventory and the premapping done for wilderness areas and adjacent off-forest areas were transferred to base stable material, scanned, and converted to vector polygons.
- Process_Date: 1995-2001
- Process_Step:
-
- Process_Description:
-
An automatic assignment from landtype to LTA, VRU, and ALTA was made. The soil scientist then simplified each layer by changing these assignments until the proper resolution was reached. In general, few changes were made to LTA, while many changes were made to VRU and ALTA in order to end up with few, fairly large polygons. Regions were then created for each of these layers.
- Process_Date: 1998-2001
- Process_Step:
-
- Process_Description:
-
In the Selway Bitterroot, the 1:100k R1 LTAs were used as a starting point for the LTAs, VRUs, and ALTAs. Polygons were relabeled manually and in some cases split, to create the correct labels for these three sets of mapping units. The region subclasses for LTA, VRU, and ALTA were recreated.
- Process_Step:
-
- Process_Description:
-
A region subclass called LT_LTA was created by using landtypes where they exist and LTA where it doesn't. This is largely in the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness Area.
