Abstract:
The pastures shapefile has its origin in the Nez Perce National Forest SDE feature class rmu_subunit. The rmu_subunit feature class was created by the Nez Perce National Forest to describe the spatial location and characteristics of range pastures on or near the Nez Perce National Forest. Pastures and exclosures are stored in this feature class. The layer is updated on an irregular basis. Attributes describing allotments and pastures are stored in the Forest's INFRA database. Allotment pastures for allotments that are currently in an "inactive status" are included in the feature class.
Purpose:
This information is intended for cartographic use and spatial analysis.

Range allotments and pastures were drawn based upon existing hardcopy maps from the allotment and permittee files of the Nez Perce National Forest along with input from the Forest and District Range Conservationists. Primary data sources included: allotment file maps, permittee file maps, Salmon River RD Range Conservationist, Clearwater RD Range Conservationist, Nez Perce National Forest Range Conservationist and the USDA Forest Service's softcopy Primary Base Series (PBS) maps. January 2003: Exclosure around McComas Meadows changed to better reflect on-ground conditions. February 2003: Butte Gospel: No Man's Land pasture combined with Three Springs Pasture to reflect actual use. February 2003: Butte Gospel: Little Boulder Creek pasture merged into Boulder Creek pasture to reflect actual use. February 2003: Sherwin Creek: Mud Springs On/Off broken out of Lower Mud Springs to reflect actual use. March 2003: White Bird Creek: Big Cove allotment merged into White Bird Creek allotment to reflect actual condition. March 2003: Papoose: Papoose On/Off pasture broke out from Papoose pasture to reflect actual use. June 2003: Sherwin Creek: Pasture boundary between Mud Springs On/Off and Lower Mud Springs changed to reflect actual on ground condition. Allotment boundary changed to reflect inclusion of off lands in allotment. July 2003: Earthquake: Adjusted portion of northern allotment boundary to conform to permit description.
