Why was the data set created?

product of the PIC pacific island vegetation mapping and monitoring project

How was the data set created?

  1. From what previous works were the data drawn?

    QuickBird (source 1 of 1)
    Type_of_Source_Media: disc
    Source_Scale_Denominator: 2.4 meter

  2. How were the data generated, processed, and modified?

    (process 1 of 2)
--IKONOS multispectral image mosaic (4m) for entire island segmented using ECognition at scale factor 50 --Segmentation reult, a polygon shapefile, and the IKONOS msi mosaic data tranfered to a graduate student Julie Anderson (jkanderson@strideth.com) for classification and labeling. --about 16% land area still covered in cloud based on the IKONOS data and not mapped by Julie --QuickBird multispectral mosaic data (2.4m) extracted for the 16% land area with30m buffer, portion still under cloud --QuickBird subset segmented in ECognition at scale factor 100 (only factor able to experiment due to limited software access) --Segmentation polygon shapefile from QB subset labeled in ArcMap with customized tools; class labels chosen based on visual interpretation of QB data, the surrounding class labels from Julie's map as well as the historic vegetaton map for Palau --layers from Julie and QB segmentation merged together in Arc Workstation Grid environment with higher priority given to Julie's data --data checked for large clumps of NoLabel areas; class labels assigned when necessary --data imported into ERDAS IMAGINE and filtered out clumps with less than 25 pixles (2.4m) --data converted back into shapefile --final check for NoData polygon --attrubute table standardized --Metadata
