Learn what smokejumpers are, how they fight wildfires in North America and the history of the smokejumper program. See exhibits about wildland firefighting and how smokejumpers and the other Aerial Fire Depot organizations work together to make wildland firefighting safer and more efficient.
The Smokejumper Visitor Center is currently: Open for school groups by appointment.
Summer Hours: Beginning May 26, 2025
10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. - Daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day (May 26 through September 5, 2025).
Tours:
Learn what smokejumpers are, how they fight wildfires in North America and the history of the smokejumper program. See exhibits about wildland firefighting and how smokejumpers and the other Aerial Fire Depot organizations work together to make wildland firefighting safer and more efficient.
Exhibits include several short videos and visitors can enter an actual fire lookout from 1937.
Morning: 11:00 a.m.
Afternoon: 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.
Duration: The tour takes approximately 45 minutes to one hour.
Tour Groups:
Small groups do not need to make prior reservations to take a guided tour of the smokejumper facility.
Large groups of ten or more people should call in advance and schedule a tour.

Directions:
Located northwest of the Missoula, Montana Airport. Take Airway Boulevard, Exit 99 from Interstate 90, and follow signs to the Smokejumper Base located ½ mile west of the airport terminal.
