Kisatchie Wilderness Area

Visitors to the Kisatchie Hills Wilderness Area can find 8,700 acres of forest featuring some of the most unusually steep and rugged terrain to be found in Louisiana. In addition to a variety of wildlife, this scenic area features flat-topped mesas, sandstone bluffs and outcroppings, and several distinct forest types. This area is undeveloped except for the designated trail system. General day-use, overnight backpacking, and trails.

General Information

Directions: From Interstate Hwy 49, take the Derry exit, exit 119 and drive south on Louisiana Hwy 119 5.5 miles to Forest Highway 59 (Longleaf Scenic Byway). Turn right (west) on FH 59. From this point on, the Wilderness will lie on your right (north) until you reach Forest Road 339. Turning right (north) on FR 339, you can continue to drive adjacent to the Wilderness boundary until you cross over the Forest boundary. The Wilderness can be accessed at any place of your choosing, but only by foot or on horseback.
