Hickory Ridge Trail

This 48.7 mile trail designed for hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking is made up of a variety of long and short loops that wind through scenic hardwoods providing a chance to get away from it all. With a "spaghetti bowl" of trail options almost any distance can be tailored to ride or hike. The trails vary from easy on the flat ridges to difficult if you drop down into the ravines and trail use drops off the further you get from the parking area.

Current Conditions:
  • Trail 16 is closed from the junction of trail 17 on the west to junction with trail 17 on the east.
Permit Info: Horses and mountain bike riders (age 17 years and older) are required to have a permit and stay on trails designated for that type of use. Permits are available from our offices and local vendors.
Open Season: Year-round
Usage: Light
Restrictions: A complete list of US Forest Service rules and regulations are posted on bulletin boards in the campground. No hardwood firewood may be brought in to the campgrounds unless it has been certified by the USDA or IDNR.
Closest Towns: Bloomington, IN
Water: Water is available for livestock but not tested as safe for human consumption.
Restroom: Vault toilet provided at trailhead only

Directions:

From Ind. 446 turn east on Ind. 58. Proceed 6.5 miles to Norman.  Turn left at the stop sign to continue on Ind. 58. Proceed another 0.3 miles and turn left onto County Road 1250 W at the brown Forest Service sign. Continue 2.2 miles to the Hickory Ridge Trailhead/Campground on your left.

Mountain Biking
