Apache Maid Cabin

Area Status: Open
Apache Maid Cabin

This rustic Forest Service facility, located at the eastern base of Apache Maid Mountain, is 2 hours north of Phoenix, Arizona, and just 45 minutes north of Camp Verde, Arizona. The cabin is located in the shade of a ponderosa pine forest just south of the Mogollon Rim. Nearby Stoneman Lake, Beaver Creek, and Sedona offer popular recreation activities. The cabin was originally built by Charles Babbitt in 1909 and served as a ranch house for cattlemen, and later as a Forest Service ranger station. The cabin has been restored to its historic character.

The Apache Maid cabin is a small cabin (520 square feet) and can accommodate up to 6 overnight visitors inside. The house has one bedroom (with a bunk bed, a double size bottom and a twin top; and a rollaway single bed), living room (with a futon couch), and a kitchen/dining room. The kitchen has a stove, but no refrigerator. An outdoor vault toilet is 50 yards from the house. The house is not handicap accessible.

The house has solar lighting and gas heating (no electricity). Outside, there is a propane grill, picnic tables, and a fire pit. Visitors must bring their own linens, bedding, and water (for drinking, cooking, washing dishes, and cleaning).

There is parking for one RV at the site, for a maximum site occupancy of 10 people. All smoking must be done within enclosed vehicles or outside where the area is cleared of all flammable material. This is a "pack-it-in, pack- it-out" facility, so all garbage/trash must be disposed of by the renter. Please, do not leave any trash behind.
