Wabasso Lake Recreation Area

If you are looking to canoe in the glassy waters of Wabasso Lake or enjoy a rustic cozy campground, try the Wabasso Lake Recreation Area off Forest Road 142 west of Lac du Flambeau.

The Wabasso Lake Recreation Area on the Medford-Park Falls Ranger District consists of a campground with five walk/canoe-in campsites equipped with fire grills and picnic tables. Drinking water and toilets are located at the boat landing.

Wabasso Lake Recreation Area is located about one mile west of the Lac du Flambeau and is perfect for primitive camping. Wabasso Lake is 49-acres and has an excellent panfish population and is great for canoeing and fishing.

So, if you like to hike, fish, swim, hike, bike, and picnic, then the Wabasso Lake Recreation Area is the place for you, located 5 minutes west of Lac du Flambeau. The Wabasso Lake Recreation Area is pet friendly; see restrictions below for more information.

Reservations: There are no reservable sites. All sites are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Fees: Individual campsite fee is $5 per vehicle. The forest also has an annual pass available for $30. To learn more about passes, click here.

  • Each site has a maximum of eight people.
Pets and Animals
  • Pets must be crated, caged, or on a leash less than 6’ in length while in developed recreation areas.
Firewood Closure Order
  • The firewood closure order prohibits possessing, storing, or transporting any firewood that originates more than 25 miles from your campsite. For more information, click here.
  • For current fire danger, check the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources burn restrictions website. Any prohibitions in place, including fire bans, will be posted on our website and site bulletin boards.
Quiet Hours
  • Quiet hours are from 10 pm to 6 am.
  • The use of generators is not allowed during quiet hours.
Occupancy & Use Restrictions ATV & UTV operation is prohibited in the campground.

From State Highway 70, turn north on Forest Road 509 (Chippewa Trail Road) and then turn Right on Forest Road and left into Wabasso Lake Recreation Area.

Activities

Campground Camping

The Wabasso Lake Campground is located on an underdeveloped lake shore overlooking the beautiful 49 acre Wabasso Lake. The campground is about one mile west of the Lac du Flambeau Indian Reservation and is perfect for primitive camping. Drinking water and toilets are located at the boat landing. Five walk/canoe-in campsites contain fire grills and picnic tables. Please pack out what you bring with you. Garbage service is not provided in this camping area.

Lake and Pond Fishing

Wabasso Lake has good fishing opportunities. A boat landing is located at the parking lot. Wabasso does not allow gas motors, and some lakes have special fishing regulations. Be sure to check regulations for the area you are fishing.

Fish Species Bluegill and largemouth bass

Boating - Motorized

Gasoline-powered motors are prohibited, while electric motors are permitted on Wabasso Lake. The boat landing is in the parking lot.

Boating - Non-Motorized

The quiet nature of Wabasso Lake is perfect for canoeing, kayaking, and paddle boarding. The boat landing is in the parking lot.
