Picnic Point Recreation Area
If you’re looking for a base camp to explore area trails or a quiet campground nestled under towering pines on the Mondeaux Flowage, try the Picnic Point Campground, approximately 20 miles northwest of Medford.
Picnic Point is a tent-only campground that’s near the Mondeaux Dam Recreation Area on the Medford-Park Falls Ranger District. Each of the four individual campsites has a fire ring and picnic table. There’s a vault toilet at the campground. Water is available at the nearby glacial spring on Forest Road 1563/Park Road.
Trash collection is not provided within the campground. Please pack out your own garbage. A dumpster is available in West Point Campground.
Please note that parking is not available at each campsite. You’ll need to park in a nearby lot and carry your gear to your site.
Reservations are available only for the entire campground and only from April through October. Specific dates change yearly. Check availability at recreation.gov. If the campground isn’t reserved, the individual sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. From October through April, the campground is only available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Your camping fee includes use of a boat ramp for access to the 416-acre Mondeaux Flowage. Boaters who are not staying at the campground may also use the boat ramp with a day-use fee or pass.
The Ice Age National Scenic Trail is accessible directly from the campground for campers only. Public parking for the trail is available on County Highway E.
The campground is available for year-round camping; however, the access road is not maintained during the winter months for snow removal.

General Information
Directions: Travel north from Medford for 4 miles on State Highway 13, turn left (west) on County Trunk Highway M for about 7 miles. Turn right (north) on County Trunk Highway E for 8.5 miles, then turn right (east) on Forest Road 1563 for 1 mile. Turn right (south) on Forest Road 106 for 2 miles to the entrance.Activities
Campground Camping
The rustic Picnic Point Recreation Area is a tent-only facility on the beautiful 411-acre Mondeaux Flowage. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and a fire ring. Most sites are located near the water with a view of the lake. This area can only be used as individual sites if the entire campground is not reserved as a group site. Individual sites are then first-come, first-serve. Garbage and recycling are available at the West Point Recreation Area, one mile north of Picnic Point.

Lake and Pond Fishing
The Mondeaux Flowage has good fishing opportunities. A boat landing is located in the campground.

Day Hiking
There are a couple of options for hiking at Picnic Point. The Ice Age National Scenic Trail runs past the campground. Another option is the Aldo Leopold Nature Trail which is 2.5 miles from the campground on Forest Road 106.
Boating - Motorized
This is a motorized flowage mainly used for fishing. As a shallow flowage with occasional stumps, it is not conducive to water sports such as tubing and skiing. A boat landing is located in the campground for campers and non-campers.
Boating - Non-Motorized
The Mondeaux Flowage is great for canoeing, kayaking, and paddle boarding around the curvy lakeshore. A boat landing is located in the campground for campers and non-campers.
Swimming
A swimming beach is located near the lodge, 2.5 miles from Forest Road 106. This beach is open to both campers and non-campers.
