The campground is set among the ponderosa pines at the base of Gentry Fire Lookout.  The campground consists of 5 individual family sites or can be reserved and rented in its entirety as a group site for up to 75 people.

Current Conditions: Campground is accessible on a first comeĀ first serve basis from October through May.
Reservations: This campground is available on a first come first serve basis or reservations can be made at Recreation.gov.

Fees: Single site non-electrical $18 (when not reserved), up to 8 people and 1 vehicle. $12 extra vehicle charge. Group site non-electrical $90, up to 50 people and 6 vehicles.
Open Season: April 29 - Closes Columbus Day annually

Best Season: Generally early May to November. Open year-round as access permits.
Closest Towns: Nearest full service community is Payson, AZ, 50 miles west via Hwy 260.
Water: No potable water, visitors need to bring their own

General Information

Directions:

Directions from Heber: Travel 13 miles to the junction of State Highway 260 and Forest Road 300. Approximately five miles south of the junction on Forest Road 300, you'll find the campground.


General Notes:

Natural Features:

The area is relatively flat with sandy surfaces. The campground is sheltered among towering ponderosa pines interspersed with fir and oak.

Recreation:

Recreation opportunities in the area include hiking, photography and wildlife viewing.  Located within the Heber Wild Horse Territory, visitors can often see herds of free roaming horses which frequent the area.

Facilities:

Gentry Group Campground offers picnic tables, campfire grills, and a vault toilet. Roads are sand and gravel. There is a campground host and trash deposit available at the Black Canyon Rim campground.

  • Stay away from lookout tower during lighting storms.
  • Gas, phone, and groceries are available 10.5 miles west at Forest Lakes.
