Aldo Leopold Trail

This 1.2 mile self-guided, non-motorized nature trail, located along an esker near the Mondeaux Dam Lodge, helps to outline Aldo Leopold's conservation ethics and his legacy.

As you follow along the trail, wooden engraved signs help to outline the history of his life and quotes from his essays in the book entitled "A Sand County Almanac." Leopold focused on the life cycles of trees and prairies in many of his writings which can also be experienced in person as you walk along this trail.

The Mondeaux Dam Recreation Area includes other recreational activities such as camping at Spearhead, Eastwood, Picnic Point and West Point campgrounds. There is a beach, picnic area, and it is connected to the Ice Age National Scenic Trail.
