CLOVIS, Calif., June 27, 2025 —Forest (SNF) is implementing temporary fire restrictions effective June 28, 2025 due to increased fire risk. These restrictions are crucial for preventing wildfires and protecting our natural resources. Fire restrictions are expected to end on November 15, 2025.
Current conditions meet criteria to implement temporary fire restrictions according to the SNF Fire Restriction and Emergency Closure Plan. Based on similar conditions, adjacent federal land management agencies and departments have also entered various levels of fire restriction.
Recreation Sites and Wilderness Areas on the SNF have been assessed by Line Officers, Forest Fire Management Personnel and Prevention Staff and have had flammable materials removed to mitigate ignitions; See linked Exhibits.
Key Restrictions:
- Campfires: Prohibited in non-developed campsites. Allowed only in designated wilderness, developed campgrounds, or picnic areas managed by Forest Service or Vista Recreation.
- Fires: Wood and charcoal fires, including wood-burning stoves, are generally prohibited unless outlined in Exhibits A & B.
- Portable Stoves: Allowed if they have a shut-off valve and use pressurized gas, liquid fuel, or propane with a valid California Campfire Permit.
- Smoking: Permitted only in enclosed vehicles, designated buildings, campgrounds, or specified smoking areas.
- Prohibited Activities: No welding, open-flame torches, fireworks, sparklers, or incendiary devices. Exploding targets and tracer rounds are also banned.
- Resorts, pack stations, recreation residences and other sites operated under special use permit from the U.S. Forest Service may be exempt from the special orders, as long as any fire activity is conducted in compliance with their permit and only at the site of their permit.
Human-caused fires can be prevented. One less spark can mean one less wildfire. Do your part to prevent wildfires. To learn more, visit One Less Spark Campaign - Ready for Wildfire.

- Penalties: Violating these restrictions could incur fines up to $5,000 for individuals or $10,000 for organizations, imprisonment, or both. Offenders may also bear the costs of fire suppression and damages.
