Schedule of Proposed Actions
The Schedule of Proposed Actions provides a list of proposals that will begin or are undergoing environmental analysis and documentation so that people can become aware of and indicate their interest in specific proposals. The SOPA is published quarterly (Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter). For project level information, please contact the “Project Contact” listed in the SOPA and indicate your interest.
The SOPA Report contains a list of proposed actions that will begin or are currently undergoing environmental analysis and documentation. Questions and comments regarding projects listed in the SOPA should be directed to the Project Contact shown in the report.

Collaborative Forest Landscape Restoration (CFLR) Project
The American River Ranger District (ARRD) of the Tahoe National Forest has identified a landscape restoration area where there are significant opportunities and needs to reestablish natural fire regimes and improved ecological function through multiple landscape ecological restoration projects.Resource Management Page.

ARRD BAR Trail Reroute Project
Reroute 3 trail segments on Loops 5 and 6. Perform trail maintenance.

Mosquito Fire Restoration
Removal of hazard trees, site preparation, reforestation, and critical fuel break management on approximately 6,600 acres.

Russell Valley Fuels Reduction
Manual and mechanical fuels treatment, as well as prescribed fire for the benefit of forest health, wildfire resilience, hydrological function and resiliency to climate change.

Mosquito Fire Salvage
Cut and remove dead and dying trees caused by the Mosquito Fire of 2022. Salvage on approximately 158 acres.

Pines to Mines Trail Project
The project proposes development of a multi-use native surface trail system connecting Nevada City, CA to Truckee, CA. The system would be approximately 68 miles in length and would include existing Forest Service trails and new trail construction.

Shirttail Forest Restoration Project
Forest health actions to accomplish forest restoration and wildfire hazard reduction at a landscape scale while facing dynamic and evolving forest conditions.

Tahoe National Forest Over-snow Vehicle Use Designation
Designating over-snow vehicle (OSV) use on National Forest System roads and trails and in areas on National Forest System lands as allowed, restricted, or prohibited. Identifying where grooming for OSV use would be conducted

Tahoe National Forest Plan Amendment: Managing Naturally Ignited Wildfire for Resource Benefits
Amend the Tahoe Forest Plan to expand opportunities for the Forest Service to manage naturally-ignited (lightning-caused) wildfire under carefully prescribed conditions to achieve resource benefits and reduce fire risk.

Fuels reduction and thinning proposed on national forest system lands Near Highway 89 in the communities of Alpine Meadows and Olympic Valley

Blatchley
The Forest Service proposes to conduct vegetation treatments, fuels reduction, watershed improvements and road management treatments on approximately 5,195 acres of the Sierraville Ranger District, Tahoe National Forest.

North Yuba Landscape Resilience Project
Improve and restore forest health and resilience, reduce the risk of high-severity wildfire, protect and secure water supplies, and protect communities from the effects of high-severity wildfire on approximately 210,000 acres of National Forest Land.

Palisades Tahoe Temporary Residential Use Granite Flat Campground
Temporary residential use of Granite Flat Campground for winter season to be used for Palisades Tahoe Resort employee housing.

Texas Vegetation and Fuels Management Project
Reduce vegetative fuels and hazards, improve wildlife habitat and improve forest health and resilience.

Union Pacific Railroad Avalanche Blasting Special Use Permit
Special Use Permit to mitigate snow avalanche hazards to Union Pacific Railroad. Company to use an avalauncher, pipe method, and hand-placed explosives to trigger controlled avalanches in the Cisco Buttes area of avalanche vulnerability.

Kinder Morgan LS-12 Pipeline Van Norden Meadow Encroachment Project
Tahoe NF will authorize a 0.5 mile pipeline encroachment due to the acquisition of Van Norden Meadow. The Humboldt-Toiyabe and Tahoe NFs will also approve a new operating plan for the entirety of the pipeline. Actions are administrative only.

Sugar Pine Project Water Right Permit 15375 Extension and Radial Gates Installation.
Amend Foresthill PUD's Special Use Permit for Sugar Pine Reservoir for installation of radial gates to increase water storage capacity (EIS). This will be a joint analysis with the state project to extend the PUD's water right permit (EIR).

T-Mobile Generator Install
T-Mobile is installing a generator on Hwy 89S below Goose Meadows CG to obtain backup power and provide cell service in the event of an emergency such as wildfire.

Fuel treatment and meadow restoration activities to provide adequate long-term community protection from future wildfires.

AT&T Underground Fiber Optic Cable Satley to Sierra City
AT&T proposes to install underground fiber optic cable within the road right of ways for highways 49 and 89 for approximately 18.67 miles between Satley and Sierra City. The project would improve broadband communications service in the area.

Independence Lake Trail
Construct ~3 mile pedestrian trail in Independence Lake Basin near upstream confluence with Independence Creek to replace user-created route in sensitive fish habitat. Would be constructed to meet NFS standards and would be non-motorized use only.

Tahoe National Forest Re-Authorization of Expired Special Use Permits
The Tahoe National Forest is working to replace expired Special Use Permits with new permits for a variety of existing land uses Forest-wide.
