Ochoco Wild Horse Herd Management Plan

The Forest is preparing an environmental assessment to consider a new Wild Horse Herd Management Plan for the Big Summit Wild Horse Territory. The new plan will include an appropriate management level (AML) and a set of management strategies to achieve AML and maintain the health of the herd. The new plan will amend the Ochoco Land and Resource Management Plan. The current plan was written in 1975. The Forest Service must maintain a herd size that can be sustained within the Territory boundary and a thorough, science-based approach to determining an appropriate management level (AML) considering the current conditions is overdue.
