Officials Close Areas for Public Safety During Winter Storms

ARCADIA, Calif., January 5, 2016 – With the predicted heavy rain in a series of winter storms, Angeles National Forest and San Gabriel Mountains National Monument officials have closed multiple recreation areas to ensure public safety.

Rowher Flats and Drinkwater Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) areas are closed.  The South Fork, Big Rock, Gould Mesa, and Coldbrook campgrounds along with the Bridge to Nowhere Trail are closed until the storms pass. Additional closures may be implemented at any time based on storm impacts.  Staff will assess the conditions following the storms and decide then whether these areas can be reopened for weekend use.

LA County Department of Public Works and Caltrans officials have closed the following roads:          Lake Hughes Road 10 miles South of Elizabeth Lake Road to Newvale Drive, Glendora Ridge Road from Mt. Baldy Road to Glendora Mountain Road, Highway 2 from Islip Saddle, Route 39 to five miles west of Big Pines Highway.
