Forest Order: 06-10-24-01 Fire Restrictions

PUBLIC USE RESTRICTION – STAGE 1 FIRE RESTRICTIONS
Pursuant to 16 USC § 551 and 36 CFR § 261.50(a) and (b), and to provide for public safety and protect natural resources, the following acts are prohibited within the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest. This Order will be effective at 12:01 am on June 29th, 2024, until November 30th, 2024, unless rescinded sooner.

PROHIBITIONS:

  • 1. To build, maintain, attend, or use a fire except: [36 CFR § 261.52(a)]
    • a. When using commercial stoves or campfires within the National Forest that are fueled by pressurized liquid fuel or propane. (See Exemption #3)
    • b. Within Forest Service-constructed concrete or metal fire rings or fireplaces in designated recreation sites, which are listed and identified on Exhibits A through F. (See Exemption #3.)
  • 2. Using an explosive. [36 CFR § 261.52(b)]
  • 3. To smoke, except: [36 CFR § 261.52(d)]
    • a. Within an enclosed vehicle, building, or designated recreation site;
    • b. When stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable material; or
    • c. While aboard a watercraft while navigating or at rest on a waterway.
  • 4. Possessing, discharging, or using any kind of firework or other pyrotechnic device. [36 CFR § 261.52(f)]
  • 5. Operating an internal combustion engine, except: [36 CFR § 261.52(h)]
    • a. While on a motor vehicle on Forest Development Roads or within designated parking areas;
    • b. While aboard watercraft while navigating or at rest on a waterway;
    • c. While using generators with approved spark arrestors, in designated recreation sites as listed on Exhibit A through F;
    • d. Approved off-Highway Vehicles (“OHVs”) on forest roads and trails;
    • e. When operating chainsaws for the collection of fuel wood will be regulated by the permit. Electric chainsaw use is exempt from this order and allowed all day with a required 30-minute fire watch. (See Exemption #4)
  • 6. Welding or operating an acetylene or other torch with open flame. [36 CFR § 261.52(i)]
  • 7. Violating any state law specified in the order concerning burning, fires or which is for the purpose of preventing, or restricting the spread of fires. [36 CFR § 261.52(k)]
